Mānatu, lowland ribbonwood.
A lovely graceful native tree that changes form as it ages. The juvenile trees are slim and have dainty, airy, divaricating foliage. As the trees mature the leaves grow larger with serrated edges, similar to a birch leaf. The tree takes on a tall, open, rounded form as it matures. In spring they produce long clusters of small lime and cream flowers that are loved by pollinators. It is semi-evergreen in warmer climates, but is usually deciduous in cold climates.
It is a great choice for exposed and windy sites, and is suitable for coastal environments. It prefers moist but well drained soil and will typically grow to around 6m tall by 4m wide.
